Tell the doctor if any skills are lost once gained. At 4 months, your baby is likely to turn towards sounds, smile back at you, and show interest in peoples faces. At 6 months, your baby is likely to coo, smile and express emotions like sadness and joy. At 9 months, your baby is likely to smile and trade sounds with you. At 12 months, your baby is likely to play peek-a-boo, patty cake, and make sounds like "ma," "da," and "ga." At 15 months, your baby is likely to use pointing or other gestures and begin using three or more words. At 18 months, your baby is likely to use two word phrases to get desires met, and will understand at least 10 words. At 24 months, your baby has developed pretend play and a vocabulary of up to 50 words. At 36 months, your baby answers "who," "what," and "where" questions and begins to talk about the past and the future and also has developed some favorites in life.
