It's what you'll here on my stereo at home. My car radio is tuned to a station that only plays gospel and I got rid of all CDs last year that were any other genre of music (well, except for some jazz, Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin & Stevie Wonder--that's classic stuff).I've always been sort of an eclectic listener. Soul. Rock. Blues. Jazz. R & B. Hip Hop. Neo Soul. Folk. Ska. Classical. House. Dance. Reggae. Even some Zydeco, Blue Grass and Country. What excites me, is that you can now find the message of Christ in every genre listed above. So I don't really miss the CDs I gave up. Or the secular radio stations.Still--there are some songs, that have just moved me through the years. I wouldn't be true to me if I didn't recognize their impact on my life, my emotions, my writing. These are songs that have made me want to laugh, cry, love, act, write. There are only a few listed here, but the list does, and shall, go on.Songs I Love Posted in Music by Lesli D.Corbin | 3 comments Email this post Too Funny!! Tuesday, March 31, 2009 So, the other day, I got this really interesting email prompting me to describe the sender in only one word--then copy their original email and send it out to all my friends. I don't usually get into these types of email activities, but as a lover of words, I thought it may be interesting to see what words others associate with me. I also wanted know just what some people think of me. Wonder if they were just being nice? Anyhoo--here are the responses I've received so far: ExpressiveRenaissancePoeticExuberantKineticUpbeatMellow Posted in Random Bits of Stuff by Lesli D.Corbin | 0 comments Email this post Rules to Live by Another great Top 10 List:1. If you value something/someone, take care of it/them.2. If you don't know how to operate it, leave it alone.3. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.4. If you break it, admit it.5. If you can't fix it, call someone who can.6. If it belongs to someone else and you want to use it, get permission first.7. If it's none of your business, stay out of it & don't ask questions.8. If it will brighten some one's day, say it.9. If it will tarnish some one's reputation, keep it to yourself.10. If you make a mess, clean it up. Posted in Top 10, Top 10 Tuesdays by Lesli D.Corbin | 0 comments Email this post I Am (for Maya) Monday, March 30, 2009 Webster can’t define who i was or who i am.Sculptors and painters will never be able to createthat mysterious image which is me.No professor could give a lecturethat would ever capturethe whole of my legacy. And you ask, just who it is i think i am?First, i am black, and second (only to being black),i am woman,Yet i have no need to roar;for my past, my presence, my future—these are the things that speak for me.My past says:“I am the first mother; i am Sistah Eve.The whole of civilization had its beginnings inside my womband suckled at my breast.I am the holy mother; i am Sistah Mary.My face, my womb, my body, my image;all are sacred.”My past, my presence, my future—these things speak for me.My presence says:“I am the phenomenal woman of whom Maya speaks;pretty women still marvel at my mysteries, and men still wonder just what it is they see in me.And i (black),i (woman),Proclaim:‘It’s just in me!’”My past, my presence, my future all speak for me.My future says:“Because i was the beginning—mother sistah luvaof the original man—i have no end.I am infinite,And shallforever, simplybe. People don't do enough giving and they definitely are not always cheerful about it when they do give. In fact, now is probably the worst time to be talking to people about giving. Everyone is to caught up in losing things: jobs, homes, money. Well, here's my solution: 10 things you can give that won't cost you a cent.Top 10 Gifts that Cost No $$$$:1. Apologize for being wrong.2. Let someone know how much you appreciate them.3. Forgive an enemy.4. Keep a promise.5. Pray for someone who's helped you. 6. Tell someone you love them.7. Visit with some one who is sick/elderly.8. Play a game with a child9. Say something kind to a stranger.10. Find a forgotten friend.
