SmartyPig is an online savings website, that is through the West Bank, member of FDIC. SmartyPig allows you to set up saving's goals and shows a nice break down of when you are expected to reach your saving's goal based on the amount of monthly contribution you are depositing to the account. Best of all the interest rate right now for SmartyPig is APR 2.72% /APY 2.75%, the highest percentage I have seen for savings in a long time.My problem with saving money is, although rare, I sometimes happen to see extra money sitting in my checking account and start to feel I have a little more "spending" room. Then I start to notice as the following months come along that we are in an even tighter spot financially than we were before. I'm hoping I'm not the only one that makes this financial mistake, am I? :) Now that we have a baby on the way, I figure now is as good a time as any to begin putting a little bit of money away every month. The great thing about SmartyPig is that it's automatically set up to deduct money from your current checking account at the amount you determine on the date you pre-select when setting up your savings goal. The minimum initial deposit to open a savings goal is $25.00. Savings goal amounts can be anywhere from 250.00-250,000. When you create a savings goal, you determine your own title for that account. Some account name ideas; debt payoff, vacation savings, wedding savings, Christmas/Birthday funds, etc. My current savings goals are debt payoff and a baby fund. It really doesn't matter what topic you select, it is just meant to help you visualize your goal. I have personally found that it is more exciting to be able to visualize what all of the money is being saved for, rather than having a general savings account with a low interest rate. When your savings goal is reached, you can either move the funds to your checking account or let them keep growing from the interest. Also, a nice perk once your reach your goal, you can put your funds onto a gift-card(amazon.com, BabiesRUs, BestBuy, The Home Depot...etc). Why would you want to do that you ask? Well, if you choose to do so, for say Christmas gifts, you can get a boost of up to 6% of your funds when placing it onto a gift card, therefore stretching your money even more. For example, if you had a savings goal of $500.00 that you reached, and then placed it on a gift card, you would gain an extra $30 with the interest boost, resulting in $530. There is also an option to make your savings goal visible to friends and family, and they can make contributions to your account. All of your banking information is private, all that they can see is your goal and how far away you are from achieving your particular goal. There is also the option to let people know about your SmartyPig savings goal and they can purchase a SmartyPig gift card that in turn can be added to your savings goal. SmartyPig gift cards can also be purchased as gifts and given to someone to help them open a savings account. So just from reading this review you can see that SmartyPig is not your average savings account. Check out SmartyPig and be sure to read the FAQ so you can further understand how it works. Although the economy currently seems to fight against the odds of saving money, it's never too late to set a goal, and even a small monthly contribution will grow into a large amount of funds over time. You can even add to your goal by putting some of the money you can earn online through many of the money-making websites I have reviewed previously. My experience with SmartyPig so far has been great and I recommend that you start a savings goal today. 0 comments Tuesday, July 14, 2009 Part Three: CashCrate My CashCrate Guide-What I Have Learned, So You Don't Have To: Next in my money making series I would like to introduce you to CashCrate.com. CashCrate is a very easy get-paid-to fill out surveys website. This review is very detailed and all of the information is stuff that I had to learn through my own experience. I want to give you this information as a guide to avoid the certain bumps that new members sometimes experience. My goal is to help you start earning money right away. The first check I received from CashCrate was $38.85. The minimum payout amount is $20.00, you have to reach this amount before they will mail you a check. However, as you can see I easily earned over the minimum my first month of using CashCrate. Also, if you do not earn $20 during a month, they will transfer what you earned over to the next month's pay period. It is not uncommon to hear of people that are a member of CashCrate and earning a large sum of money every month. Although rare, I have heard of members making up to a thousand dollars or more a month. I will be completely upfront and honest with you because I want you to have realistic hopes when joining this site. Anything is possible, but just aim to make a little extra cash every month using CashCrate as well as the other money making sites I will talk about on this blog. How to Sign Up:Signing up for CashCrate is 100% free. Upon signing up for CashCrate, sign up using an email account that you check often. You can easily sign up using the banner on my blog, the picture above or any of the links throughout this post. Make sure that when you sign up that you give them valid information so they know exactly where to send your check. You wouldn't want your check randomly showing up in someone else's mailbox right? :) After you sign up I recommend that you create three new email addresses through a free email account, such as yahoo or hotmail. Make the email addresses all different but very similar, so it is easy to remember. For example, KristyC3@yahoo.com, KristyC33@yahoo.com, KristyC333@yahoo.com. New email accounts are easy to create and it literally takes about 2 minutes. You are probably wondering, "why would I need to do that?" it will all make sense soon, just keep reading. :)How To Successfully Fill Out Offers/Surveys:After you have your new email addresses, familiarize yourself with the CashCrate website. To begin earning money, click on the "Complete Offers" tab. There are a lot of offers to fill out, and the price you will earn for filling them out is posted right next to the offer link. The lower priced surveys usually get posted faster to your CashCrate account. Here is where your multiple emails come in handy, a lot of companies have more than one survey posted, so in order to receive proper credit for filling out a survey, it is best to rotate email addresses for each survey you fill out. The reason you would rotate your email addresses for every survey you take is because some surveys are provided by the same company. The survey companies report back to CashCrate confirming that you completed the survey and that's how you recieve your compensation. If you do a survey and then do another survey and use the same email as before you increase the chance of causing the company to already recognize that they contacted CashCrate to provide you with compensation. This can result in you not receiving compensation for every survey provided by the same company, even though the surveys are all different topics.Cookies (sorry, these are not edible.):I recommend that you fill out a couple surveys, then log out and clear your cookies, log back in fill out a couple more, log out clear cookies...repeat."How do I clear my cookies?":For FireFox simply click on 'Tools' at the top of your browser, then 'Clear Private Data', then select 'Cookies' from the list, leaving every other option unchecked, then click 'Clear Private Data Now' and you have officially cleared your cookies! For Internet Explorer click on 'Tools', 'Internet Options', then right under 'Temporary Internet Files' there is a button that says 'Delete Cookies', click 'Ok' and you are finished! That wasn't too bad right? It is easy and it becomes second nature. The reason you should clear cookies is because certain websites will recognize if you have already filled out one of their surveys, and just as mentioned before with the rotation of emails, you might not get credited since they already recognize you. So to avoid that problem and to make money punctually remember these two steps, 1) use different email addresses and 2) clear your cookies.I fill out surveys in my free time, usually while watching T.V. On average, I spend 5-10 minutes a day filling out the offers and surveys on CashCrate. The offers/surveys are very easy to fill out. Just click on the link and it will pop up, usually asking for your email address first. Then you will be asked to fill out your address information. Make sure this information is correct so it matches up to what is under your CashCrate account so you are credited properly. Just because you are entering your address info does not mean you will receive anything, it's just to verify that you are the correct person filling out the survey. Any spam mail they send you will go directly to the three email accounts you created in the beginning, so that problem is already solved. So basically surveys consist of asking for your email address, then filling out a short name and address form, then clicking yes or no for offers. I select "no" on all of them unless I am required to select "yes" on at least one. By selecting "yes" you are not agreeing to that offer, you are agreeing to look at the ad for that certain offer. When you are getting closer to the end of the survey, there will be a bunch of "Accept" or "Pass" offers, just keep clicking "pass" until you get through all of them. Usually you will come to a page that says "Congratulations" or "Thank You" when you are finished with a survey. However, sometimes you are required to click on some of the adds on the last page of a survey to get credit, so to be on the safe-side I always click on the adds at the end to get properly credited. To spend the least amount of time possible on surveys simply keep clicking "no" and "pass", and don't worry about reading all of the questions. Basically, CashCrate makes its money by advertising offers. The companies and the members of CashCrate get a portion of the proceeds, by viewing and clicking advertisements...etc. For more information and tips on filling out surveys visit the message boards at CashCrate. You can ask questions and other members or CashCrate administration will answer them for you.You Can Earn Prizes Too! How? With Point Rewards:CashCrate also has a rewards system where you can earn points in addition to money for filling out offers/surveys. For every dollar you earn you earn a point. There is also a separate section of CashCrate devoted only to points offers, which work just like the cash surveys/offers as mentioned above, except instead of cash you earn points. Your points carry over from month to month just like the money until you cash it out. You can redeem your points for gift cards (Amazon, Starbucks, iTunes, BestBuy, Target, WalMart, Visa, Petco...etc) or for other prizes like cameras, iPods, and video game consoles. Check out all of the gift cards and prizes that you can save your points for in the "Prize Shop" after you sign up.Referrals, A Great Perk:CashCrate has one of the best referral rewards programs out there amongst all of the money making websites. You receive a $3.00 bonus for each person that you refer that makes their first $10.00. Here is a break down of the commission you can receive with active referrals courtesy of the CashCrate site:Referral RankActive ReferralsFirst Level CommissionSecond Level CommissionBronze020%10%Silver5025%10%Gold15025%15%Platinum30030%15%Elite50030%20%So if you obtain enough referrals that actively fill out offers, you can make money from doing nothing, literally. So you can see how your earnings can grow quite exceptionally.Overall, I have had a great experience with CashCrate. It is great to do something productive with my free time and earn money doing something so simple. For most of us the money can go towards groceries, bills, debt, etc. If you are blessed in the bills and debt department, the money could be saved for a rainy day, go towards a gift for someone, or use it for a night out with friends or family. Many people receive a check from CashCrate every month, you should too!Questions? Please leave them in a comment below. Thanks! :) 0 comments Monday, July 13, 2009 Part Two: Swagbucks I have started using Swagbucks recently and have really enjoyed how truly effortless it is to earn rewards. To begin earning rewards you sign up for free at swagbucks.com and download the free swagbucks.com search engine. The search engine is powered by Google and Ask, so you will get excellent search results through the search engine. You are probably thinking, "Is this a joke? I can earn rewards just for doing Google searches like I normally do?" Believe me, I thought the same thing at first. I quickly found out that the claims swagbucks made were all true and I have the gift cards to prove it.You will start off automatically with 3 swagbucks. Swagbucks are the points that you earn for using their search engine. The swagbucks that you earn can range anywhere from 1-5 per search. Although you do not earn a swagbuck for every single search, it is common to earn around 5 a day just for doing your normal searches.Prizes can be earned for anywhere from 1 to 6,800 swagbucks. I currently have 88 swagbucks in my account and I recently redeemed 90 swagbucks for Amazon gift cards. I have also received three Starbucks gift cards prior to my last redemption. Personally, I think the desirable rewards are gift cards. A couple examples of the gift cards are $5 Amazon for 45 swagbucks or a $10 Starbucks gift card for 130 swagbucks. Also, you can download songs for 1 swagbuck or enter into a sweepstakes where you can win a prize. There are certain e-gift cards/codes(online gift cards) that you can get for only 5 swagbucks. There are a lot of prizes including; gift cards, photos, posters, video games, dvds, trading cards, t-shirts, televisions, guitars, drum set, apple i-phone, gaming consoles...etc. You are bound to find something you will like.Swagbucks has an excellent referral program. When you join and refer a friend that starts to use swagbucks, you earn what they earn, up to 100 swagbucks per referral! Now you can see the potential for the amount of swagbucks you earn to skyrocket with each new referral you recieve. Just imagine all of the money you could potentially save when you sign up and start earning. You can use the gift cards you earn for birthday or Christmas gifts, or use Amazon gift cards to get something you need around the house, or Starbucks and Barnes and Noble gift cards to help pay for your coffee/tea, so you are no longer breaking the bank to do so in this crazy economy.I enjoy the fact that I am earning points by doing what I would normally do anyway on a daily basis. I encourage you all to sign up for Swagbucks.com. It is one of the easiest rewards programs out there. Think of all of the ways you can stretch your money by being rewarded for doing something so simple!Questions? Feel free to leave them in a comment, I would love to help you get started with this fun and easy rewards program. 0 comments Saturday, July 11, 2009 How to Make and Save Money Online, Part One: Ebates In this series, I will first review the cash back website called Ebates. Ebates is one of my favorite cash back sites. It is really easy and free to sign up. Upon signing up you will receive a $5 sign up bonus. You can sign up by clicking the banner on my blog, the picture above, or any link throughout this post.Basically, you sign into their website, and click on the shopping tab and choose from over 900 stores (Target, Old Navy, Sephora, JCPenney...etc.). They have every major and small retail store that you could think of. Ebates will give you a percentage back, up to 25%, just by purchasing through their website. They also give you online codes (coupons), to help you maximize your savings. I find that it helps immensely to have the online coupon codes right on their site so I don't have to spend a lot of time searching for the best deal possible.Of course you won't be saving money if you start buying anything and everything. :) However, if you do use the site when there are really good sales/coupon codes, you can really save a lot of money when you get something you need. I have been saving a ton of money and getting great deals on Ebates. I have done a lot of my Christmas shopping through them. Last year around Christmas time when I first joined they were giving double cash back, which made it an even sweeter deal. They also have a referral system. When you refer friends, family, etc. and they sign up under your referral email/link, you will earn $5 after they make their first purchase through the site and they will earn $5 just for signing up. You can receive payment by check or through PayPal once you earn $5.01+, the $5 sign-up bonus is not eligible for the cash-back over-all amount, so when you reach $10.01 and up you are eligible for your first check. All following checks will not include your sign-up bonus and will therefore be available for payment at $5.01+.All you have to do is quickly sign up for Ebates and remember when you want to make a purchase online, to go to their website, and click on the store you want to make a purchase from so you can earn back a percentage every time you shop. If you use Ebates when there are really good sales/coupon codes available, you can really save a lot of money. I encourage you to give it a try. What could be better than getting money back on a purchase you already intended to make anyway?Questions? Feel free to leave them in the comments section. Thanks! :) 0 comments Friday, July 10, 2009 Surviving in a Money Hungry World I am a shopaholic turned bargain shopper. When you get married and it is time to pay the bills, you really start learning how to penny pinch. I am thankful for all of the various websites and blogs that have taught me how to be frugal. I am excited to share what I have learned with my readers. I had no idea that there were so many ways to bring in extra income. I suddenly found out about it all when I desperately needed to. My advice is that you should utilize these tips and websites before you think you need to.A consistent way that I have been bringing in a little extra income is to utilize all of the free money making websites that I can. I am currently active on several websites and I want to share my experiences with making money online. Some websites are better than others and I hope to help you bypass the sites that are not up to par with the rest. Unfortunately, everything in this world revolves around money. I look forward to the day when it doesn't, but for now, knowing how to be frugal has been a blessing. Even if you do not need a little extra money to pay the bills, why not spend a little time to add to your savings? How about earning the money to help someone that is not currently financially well-off? The results of utilizing these tools can have many positive outcomes.I am going to write a series of posts about each money-making website that I currently use. You will find that the money you could potentially earn from joining the sites in my review series can add up rather quickly. The first cash back website that I will review is Ebates.com. I hope that this series will encourage you to sign up for some of the sites and stretch your money. Please email or comment with any questions and I would be happy to help. :) 0 comments Older Posts Subscribe to: Posts (Atom) Welcome!
