Saturday, April 18, 2009 So today is officially my dear mom's birthday. We had her over to dinner Wednesday evening to celebrate the occasion. I asked what she would like for dinner, since growing up we had our choice on our special day {did you have the same tradition?}. I granted her the same wish - except we compromised on the meat selection since Mat and I are pretty finicky when it comes to ham ;) I made a leg of lamb, au graten potatoes, sauteed fresh green beans with finely chopped garlic {sounds oddly similar to our Easter feast, right?}. For dessert, carrot cake {store bought - but it was good!!} and I even put 3 swirly candles in her slice. Though we spared her from our singing...I'd like to share the poem I found and put in her card, since it seemed to fit just right. I Owe It All To Mother! It’s your birthday, Mom.So I will raise a cheer.For without you, wondrous person,I would not be here. Yes, I owe it all to you, Mom.From the time that I was small,You encouraged me in everything,And tried not to let me fall. So I have decided to hold myself accountable by choosing one thing to focus on each week. It can be big or small, it doesn't matter just as long as I specify what it is and get it done.Last week, if you recall I wanted to continue closing my giveaways in a timely fashion, plan dinner for Saturday's UFC fight, and continue my hunt for her dresser. How did I fare? 2 out of 3. Unfortunately I did not hit up thrift stores or antique shops last week. Tsk tsk, I know. I did close my giveaway on time {though I had to extend it since it fell on our date time, but I closed it right at 6!}. And I was able to bounce recipe ideas off the Skype girls thankfully, I'll be making meatball hoagies for the fight night tomorrow. Next week I shall continue looking for a dresser, maybe Mat and I can hit up the antique shops in Snohomish on Sunday. Other than that I really just want to focus on keeping things tidy, soaking up time with her, and getting some reviews done. Goodness! That's a list and a half. We were so caught up on getting Charlie ready and dropping her off with his parents that it suddenly occurred to us...What to do?? We agreed Mexican food sounded good...or Chinese...hum and haw, back and forth. Then I said "what about Thai?" Oh yeah. I knew just where to go. Lanna Thai. I had been there once before. Actually, this restaurant was the last place my dad and I had eaten at together just the two of us. It really is an incredibly beautiful restaurant. So if you're ever around...lol you should check it out. We agreed on calamari for the appetizer, that's usually a given for us if it is on the menu. He ordered some sort of mango cocktail and I had my usual Thai iced tea. For our entrees, Mat asked for Holy Basil "Oyster mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, fresh minced red chilies & fresh Thai Holy basil". I had the Pud Thai Woon Sen "delicious Pud Thai made with Woonnoodles and prawns" . Everything was so delicious and beautifully plated. I didn't want to leave. For dessert...ugh...we split the sticky black rice and the fried ice cream. We were intrigued by the rice dessert, I have had it before but never took notice of what it came with. I asked the manager who had been interacting with a few of the tables what exactly it was. It looked like a peeled grape almost... He brought out the can from the kitchen. Lychee. So of course now Mat and I want to make our own sticky black rice :) We agreed next time we have Thai we'll return and order something different each time. We were both eying the curry duck on the menu as well. Mmmm!After thanking our server and the manager, we reluctantly left. I had a shopping itch that needed to be scratched. I needed something for Easter. So we went to Sears and he helped me pick out a nice outfit. Yes, he helps me shop... He has good taste too. He even helps me pick through the sales racks for my size. I know, right?! So with my Easter outfit and a few clearance tops in the bag, we decided to pick up our little Luv and head home for the day. It was a wonderful date! And I sooo look forward to our next one, whenever it may be.Simply marvelous. Sadly I didn't get the picture of the 3 of us like I had wanted. But Mat wore a dapper suit, and I dressed in white capris with a merry plaid swing coat {yes, I shopped}. It rained, which didn't surprise us so Charlie had a sweater and her pretty hat on to help keep her toasty.Charlie with the Easter bunny {normally known as Poppa}. That little ninja in the corner is Miss Laura, her cousin.The Easter dinner I prepared very last minute. After brunch, I was totally determined to make a nice holiday dinner for us. I walked to the store and picked up items to prepare a feast fit for our itty bitty family. Lamb, asparagus, au graten potatoes, and homemade tzatziki sauce on sourdough. After I threw a pie in the oven. It was quite delish!
