skip to main | skip to sidebar Saturday, October 17, 2009 What has inspired you recently? We are all unique. We all have different tasks and goals. We all go on different path, different routesButWe all have one destination – happiness!Be it writing a note or a book,Calling someone or preparing dinner,Working out with weights or getting toned with Pilates,Or embarking in a huge undertaking to change the world Or just your wardrobe! To get to what makes you happy,There are things, people or situations that inspire you to get there. Is it love,Tragedy,Movie or aSong? Is it nature,a friend,a country or aChild? Is it faith,An apple pie,A poem orBreaking news?Is it a perfume,A blogpost,A picture or The voice of a child?Whatever it is, it’s something that caught your attention. What has inspired you recently and what will you do about it?"Almost everything that you do will seem insignificant, but it is important that you do it." - Mahatma Gandhi"An artist is nothing without the gift, but the gift is nothing without work" - Emile Zola Have a great week everyone, until next week... Keep smiling :) Copyright © 2009 Jenjen @GottaLoveMom Labels: life 0 SHARED THEIR THOUGHTS Links to this post Saturday, October 10, 2009 High Heels or Flip-Flops? Do you prefer wearing high heels or do you love flip-flops?I love the idea of wearing high heels. It feels so powerful. But after being a full-time stay at home mom for over a decade now, I forgot how to wear them!I walk and/or run to the kids’ school just around the corner – in flip-flops if I can!I walk around the house in flip-flops.I go to the store in flip-flops.Unless it’s cold or snowing then I’m in my faux-Ugg boots! But sometimes in life, you have do something beyond your comfort zone. There are those times in your life when you have to put on those high-heels –and as Tim Gunn says, “Make it work!” Sometimes it feels good to push the envelope!Sometimes it feels good to try something new!Sometimes it feels good to be different!Sometimes it feels good to do that one more push-up!Sometimes it feels good to wear that red pair of high heels! This month had been just that – getting out of my comfort zone.Doing things I didn’t think I could do,So as you guessed, the prompt for this week : “Do you stay in the same road, or do you try a different route?”Next Sunday, October 18 is the Walk Now for Autism Speaks at Nomahegan Park in Cranford. I will be walking for Emma’s Angels.I won’t be wearing my red high heels or my flipflops!Depending on the weather that day, I will probably be wearing my sneakers! Emma is the daughter of a friend of ours. They live here in Cranford, NJ.As my friend wrote:Emma is an incredibly sweet girl who loves to cuddle and is filled with laughter. She truly enjoys everyday! Unfortunately, she still has not said a single word and is no closer to being potty trained than she was a year ago. We always say to her “please let us in on the joke” when she is laughing her way through the day. Honestly, we wish we could have her ability to laugh at the situation because as more time goes by, the more dire the situation becomes. As more time passes without speech, the likelihood that she will ever speak diminishes. She will need care for the rest of her life, never being able to live indepently. That brings allot of other issues, too ling to even mention here, into play. When we talk about it, many times it becomes too overwhelming, especially for Zach. At 15 it is hard to imagine that you have to care for someone for the rest of their lives. It definitely makes planning for his future trickier than for that of a child with a “typical” sibling. This summer it seems to be hitting me harder than usual that we are not able to do things together as a family. As our extended family is enjoying time spent together at the shore, we are unable to attend. Any change like that is difficult for Emma to handle but something new was thrown into the picture a few weeks back. While at the shore to celebrate my mother in law’s birthday, the house was buzzing with the commotion of all the relatives. As we were all enjoying the festivities, my sister-in-law noticed Emma walking down the middle of the street, head down, with a car coming. I know that there are always angels walking by her side, but if Amanda had not seen her, we may never have found her. She would not know how to find her way back and since she cannot talk, I am not sure what would have happened to her. My heart aches every time I think of what could have happened! Now that we know that she would “escape” like that, it changes everything! Just one more thing to throw in the mess! Those are just a few reasons that I am asking you once again to join us to raise money for autism. I am asking on behalf of my husband and myself, but mostly on behalf of my son, Zach. Please help to make his life with his sister an easier road to travel!I know that this year’s tough financially on a lot of people, but any donation will help,http://www.walknowforautism.org/northcentraljersey/emmasangels .We are also still collecting donations for the victims of the typhoon Ondoy in the Philippines. Go to http://bayanihan4ondoy.wordpress.com/ or http://www.ondoyrelief.org for details. And lastly, multi-tasking while driving is not a good thing! Driving while inTEXTicated is absolutely dangerous. If you’re creative and would love to create a videotape of a public service announcement about distracted driving and its dangers, go to Mom Sends The Msg(If you haven't signed the pledge, do take a few minutes and pledge to KEEP YOUR MIND on THE WHEEL )Trying to make a difference, one small gesture at a time!Have a great week and keep smiling =) Copyright © 2009 Jenjen @GottaLoveMom Labels: ARK, life 11 SHARED THEIR THOUGHTS Links to this post Tuesday, October 6, 2009 Take the "Keep Your Mind On The Wheel" Pledge There comes a time when you are just dilly-dallying in the web and then voila – something amazing catches your attention and pushes you to be off your schedule.Days are never a straight line. The to-do list and the schedule for the day do not mean you can’t skip or pause to do something worthwhile – for a better cause. It could be a concert, a Wii-Fit game with you 8yo, an impromptu brunch with you 18yo, a walk in the park with your dh, putting together donations for the victims of the typhoon in the Philippines or taking a pledge!Yes, today as I launched Internet Explorer, there’s a post in theMotherhood.com that caught my eye!I can’t say I’m perfect – far from it! I’m sometimes guilty of doing things I’m not supposed to be doing – and this Mom Sends the Msg campaign is a great reminder. We sometimes say,"What could possibly go wrong?""Just a few seconds...""It won't happen to me..."But, sad to say - sometimes accidents can happen when you're not paying attention...It’s about time (it’s actually overdue) that we set good examples for our children when it comes to driving. I have 2 young adult children, and plenty of nieces and nephews who drive. Texting and phoning while driving should not be allowed – should not even cross their (our) minds to pick up that phone (or worst – text message someone while driving! ) .There's a time and place for everything , multi-tasking is good but absolutely NOT when you are driving. We tell our kids that when you drive, you are not only responsible for your life but also for other people's lives - so stay alert, eyes on the road, keep your mind on the wheel!Mom Sends the Msg is that public service campaign initiated by the wonderful founders of theMotherhood . This campaign is aimed at reducing distracted driving, for a safer road for our families and communities. So do take the “Keep Your Mind on the Wheel” pledge, be responsible - make a difference! To pledge click on - http://www.momsmsg.com/my-blog/2009/10/take-the-keep-your-mind-on-the-wheel-pledge.html#comments .Bloggers, FB friends, tweeter friends, families and friends – let us spread this campaign and MEAN it!Have a great week and Keep smiling =)BTW, dads are welcome to take the pledge, too! First of all, thank you for being here!I’m sorry if I’m not around much. The first few weeks of school, the going-ons with my family, typhoon in the Philippines and trying to finish my project make it impossible to be here every day. (Working on the first draft of my project needed more time and consideration as I anticipated. The kids said I should go on in a mountain resort for a month and then I can fully concentrate. They probably forgot that I am their mother and that I have to be around for them and of course my dh!)Life does happen and we have to be able to adjust – be flexible.becauseLife has a way of filling up one’s week with roller coaster of emotions.First few days were focused on worrying about the typhoon in the Philippines, how to get donations for the victims of the typhoon, kids’ homework, motherhood, rekindling friendships and some health issues. When I thought my week will just be one of those “downer” weeks, something special (and fun) happened!1) The second typhoon that was expected to hit the Philippines, didn’t happen; Thank G-d!2) One of my kids just gave me the highest compliment –my 18yo wanted me to raise his kids the way I raised (raising) mine;3) Back-to-school night, my 8yo wrote that I am talented but the best talent I have is being a mother;4) My kids’ pediatrician ran out of flu shots (for now but will be available in a few weeks). My 8yo was happy because no shots but he still got his BK!5) I had this throbbing headache morning and night - but it finally went away!6) Music from my children filled the house with joy;7) My dear neighbor-friend had an extra ticket to the Bruce Springsteen concert!I’ve been in this country for 25 years and I still feel like I’m still discovering new and exciting things!OMG! Last night’s Bruce Springsteen concert at the Giant’s Stadium was awesome! It was only my 2nd concert (earlier this year, I went to see Fleetwood Mac at the Izod theater – that was my first concert!). However, after last night – the Bruce concert was my real first concert! I even got to go to my first tailgate party! The BOSS definitely knows how to put together an amazing concert! He engaged his audience, performed non-stop for three hours and totally rocked the house!I danced for three hours and enjoyed witnessing adults, teens and kids danced and sang with the BOSS!Thankful, yes I was! Definitely a lovely way to end my week…As William Wallace once said (in Brave Heart),“Every man dies, but not every man really lives!”So with that, I figured the thought-prompt for the week is:“What will you do differently to ensure that you are living your life to the fullest?”Have a great week everyone! If you get a chance, please visit Tanya’s blog, The Grab Bag. It’s packed with freebies and cool recipes. (Tanya, thank you for sharing the Lovely Blog Award)Also please say a prayer or two for the victims of the typhoon andAnd try to go outside and take a walk – a zenwalk! And lastly,Keep smiling.. From that time on I prayed that all will be safe.My brothers were on their way to get my parents when they had to leave the car because the water level rose rapidly. In 30 minutes the water level rose tremendously since 3 dams were opened to prevent from breaking. However, the citizens didn’t have enough time.My two brothers walked for hours to get to the house to ensure my Mom’s pets’ safety. The water was already up to their waist. My brothers didn’t know what they were stepping on…Fortunately, my parents’ home was not damaged and my mom’s puppies and dogs were safe. One of my other brothers was desperately trying to save his bike shop. The water got into the shop, while my other brother with his infant son ( I have 4 brothers in the Philippines) was in his apartment in the 2nd floor. My uncle’s family had to go on top of their roof since the water was as high as 5 feet; I still have not heard from my other uncle whose house might have been totally damaged.Unlike other Filipinos who lost all their belongings, homes and lives, we are grateful my family survived another challenge. When my 14yo found out what happened, he asked me,“Mom, how much more challenges can they take?”I just answered,“Mama, Papa and my brothers have very strong faith. With all these, they still manage to smile and feel blessed.”Filipinos have strong faith. And no matter how challenging life can be, Filipinos still manage to smile, move on and even lend a helping hand. The Philippine National Red Cross is accepting donations. I pray that the donations will go directly to those who need it most and not to the corrupt politicians. Please pray for all those affected by the typhoon. Please click here to watch a You Tube video on Typhoon Ketsana's .Click here to check out a charitable event in NJ (to benefit the victims) . Please visit http://www.ondoyrelief.org/ for details on how you can help! Click here for some news update - http://apnews.myway.com/article/20090929/D9B106901.html Here's an update from my brother in the Philippines (09.30.09) Another storm is coming on Thursday and Saturday. The weather report said it might havestrong winds and maybe less brain.Philippines don't need another storm. We feel sorry for the families that got hit really bad,Dead bodies that were found hanging on trees, under the mud and under the bridge.A lot of kids died. There were 2 cousins watching Saturday cartoons and they got trapped inside their house.Let us pray for those families that were hit by the storm. If you can donate anything - clothes, money, please do so. Prompt for the week: Do you view life as half-empty or half-full?
