The "King James Only" Question
Is your Bible the Word of God? Does it contain errors? Is the
King James Bible the only perfect Bible available today? These questions
understandably can be unsettling. What is one to believe? Has the modern church
been totally duped by Satan? Did Origen and other Alexandrian monks pervert the
Bible? Are modern versions following a corrupted text? Should we burn our NIVs
and stand for the KJV only?
What if it could be proven that the KJV like other Bibles does
have human errors in translation, and that it even follows errors in its Hebrew
and Greek underlying texts? Does the King James Bible actually represent the
majority of Greek and other language manuscripts, or does it often opt for
readings with little or no manuscript support? Did you know that Westcott was a
conservative Bible theologian who defended Jesus' deity and atonement? And that
Erasmus was an avowed Catholic who disputed with Martin Luther's Reformation
ideas? Or further, did you know that the predominantly Anglican KJV translators
favored a text that was copied by Eastern Orthodox monks? Were modern versions
influenced by Catholics and liberals, or worse even homosexuals, or were they
the product of conservative, Bible-believing scholars?
Much Heat, Little Light
Perhaps no other issue has been so controversial and sustained so
much heated discussion among God-fearing conservative Bible-believers as the
King James Only controversy. Honest and sincere believers are often caught in
the middle of the controversy as churches, institutions, and even families are
sadly split over this often divisive issue. There are both good people and
extreme "nut cases" on both sides.
Where can one go to honestly evaluate the evidence, and hear both
sides of the debate in a non-controversial, safe environment? The King James
Only Research Center aims to provide such a place. The arguments pro and con
will be given, the extreme positions explained, and the best resources for each
side provided. Having been on both sides of the debate, and having chased many
hard and difficult questions through from one side of the divide to the other,
I've encountered a lot of different viewpoints. I've sifted through the
misrepresentations, slanders, and hyper-hysteria to find the best sites which
will equip you to make an informed, principled decision as to this difficult
debate. I'm sure my bias will show through, but I will attempt to be fair to the
other viewpoints as I aim to steer you safely through the murky waters of the
KJVO debate.
