Pollution, poor nutrition, stress and unhealthy lifestyles can lead to a variety of illnesses and conditions that are very similar to those experienced by humans. These days, emotional and psychological problems like depression, anxiety, ADHD and behavioral problems are just as prevalent in pets as they are in their owners. Similarly, physical ailments such as diabetes, arthritis, chronic fatigue, digestive disorders, cystitis, kidney and liver disease, skin disorders, obesity, thyroid dysfunction and other problems are becoming more and more common in domesticated animals. Many, if not most of these conditions can be prevented by helping your pets to live a healthier lifestyle. For pets already suffering from existing conditions, a combination of lifestyle changes and natural medicine can work wonders! While it has its place, conventional medicine for animals and 'modern technology' have failed our pets in many ways.According to pet expert and author CJ Puotinen, most holistic veterinarians and animal health care professions list annual vaccinations and commercial pet foods as the major contributory cause in the rising rates of chronic illness in pets today.Similarly, Juliette de Bairacli Levy, respected author and renowned animal breeder, points out that contrary to the belief that mass vaccination and antibiotic use will contribute to a decrease in disease, the opposite has in fact proved true. Like their human counterparts, today's pets are becoming more and more vulnerable to chronic disease and ill health. This has led many veterinarians to search for alternatives and to espouse more holistic methods of keeping our pets healthy.ResourcesAsk Our ExpertsArticlesTestimonialsFAQsAbout UsSpecials Contents at a Glance Do herbal and homeopathic remedies Pet Alerts Be Like Me - NO More Fleas Manage Fleas Naturally - for Dog & Cats FREE eBooks Pet Ticks, Fleas and Stings more... In fact, Asclepius, the ancient Greek god of medicine, respected dogs very highly for their ability to seek out and eat medicinal herbs in the wild. This ability is shared by other animals, including cats. We are coming to realize that nature often has the answers - but animals have always known this! Natural medicine can help your pet just as it can help you. While there is always a place for conventional veterinary medicine, natural medicine can compliment conventional veterinary care and in many cases cure your pets just as well - without the side effects and damage to health that can accompany synthetic drugs and antibiotics. I have applied the same care and research that have gone into our Native Remedies range for adults and children to the development of pet-friendly, safe and effective natural remedies for animals. As always, all remedies are formulated to the highest therapeutic standards and manufactured under strict pharmaceutical conditions for your peace of mind and the well being of your pets. Pet Ticks, Fleas and Stings Unforeseen Dangers of Spring With warmer spring weather arriving in the next few weeks, pet owners face an entire new set of challenges. While your pet was likely cooped up inside during the winter, the change in climate will soon likely bring your pet outdoors-also exposing it to potential health hazards.Nearly every system in your pet's body can be affected by the change in season, but preventative measures can be taken to ensure your pet stays safe and healthy while frolicking in the great outdoors! When unleashing your pet into the yard, park, or other place of recreation, be sure to err on the side of caution regarding the territory they investigate. Puppies especially tend to mistake blooms, leaves, and branches as potential chew toys, which can disrupt digestive systems or even be poisonous. To settle sensitive stomachs and restore health after a slip-up, try a detoxifying supplement or effective natural tonic to support liver health. Natural remedies to promote digestive health and balance can go a long way in avoiding digestive upsets in the first place. The following herbal products are very effective in promoting protection and relief from common complaints.Digestive Support - Treat digestive conditions and improve digestive functioningDetoxPlus - Cleanse the system and eliminate toxins from the bodyLiverAid - Stimulate and improve liver functioning and prevents diseaseRuniPoo Relief - Maintain healthy digestion and bowel functioningParasite Dr. - Expel parasites and heal digestive infectionAggression Formula - Curb restlessness and aggressive behaviorPetCalm - Effectively reduce stress and anxiety while promoting relaxationProblem Pet Solution - Reduce hyperactivity and restlessness, promote calmnessAmazaPet - Improve respiratory function and reduce asthmatic symptomsRespo-K - Prevent colds and respiratory ailmentsClenzor - Clean and disinfect wounds and skin irritationFleaDerm - Relieve irritation and itching due to flea and tick bitesMuscle and Joint Support - Relieve stiffness in swollen joints, reduce pain and promote healthy muscles and bonesPawPaw - Protect and encourage healing of pawsTF-Defense - Treat Lyme Disease and other tick-borne illnessesWound Dr. - Cleanse, heal and prevent infection in cuts, scrapes and irritations of all kindsView all PetAlive ProductsThe abundance of fresh foliage also brings the additional threat of infection-transmitting insects, as well as an increased likelihood of scrapes and cuts from thorns and rough edges. It is important to protect your pet against fleas and ticks and relieve bites from existing buggers promptly to lessen the risk of serious complications . To soothe, heal, and help prevent infection from minor bruises and sores, attend to your pet promptly. Check their paws after a walk or excursion for embedded rocks, stones, or other elements that could cause distress if ignored.Building a strong and healthy skin and coat can help promote the natural immune response of the skin when injured to protect against problems. In addition to these ailments more likely to affect animals, pets experience many similar conditions as us when we warm weather arrives, as well.Allergies and behavior issues can emerge as spring fever hits, causing upset for both your pet and you! To help promote healthy respiratory health in your pet, take note of identifying allergy triggers, and try to lessen your pet's interaction with these sources. Easing your pet's discomfort can help avoid potential flare-ups of disobedience and aggression. While heat may be the culprit as instinct interferes with training, sometimes animals react negatively to these controllable ailments. Either way, settling nerves before the onset of extreme summer heat can minimize potentially more destructive behaviors to come.It is also possible that the added activity with more outdoor play can be contributing to increased muscle and joint pain, which may be exhibited by a disruptive, unusual demeanor. While it can be a struggle to find balance between having fun with your pet and minimizing distractions that can interrupt carefree playtime, following these simple lifestyle tips can provide much needed support and keep your pet full of vitality and good health!--------------------------------------------------------------------------------"I wanted to tell you how much your capsules have helped our much loved family cat. Problems can include liver, kidney, heart inflammation, and infection. Also consider the many uses of your pet's teeth! Dogs and cats make much fuller use of their teeth than humans do - using them in ways we usually use our hands-which is just another reason why it is so important to help maintain and promote health. There are many natural remedies and approaches you can take to help promote oral health. The PetAlive line offers four proven products that promote good oral health. As with other health issues, preventative care is best!Begin better health from the inside out. Good nutrition, which includes lean meats, whole grains, and natural-based treats offers a good foundation for health. In addition, there are many foods specially formulated to reduce plaque and discourage tartar build-up.Products to Promote Oral Health:Gumz-n-Teeth - Promote healthy teeth and gumsImmunity and Liver Support - Promote immune system and liver functioningOralHealth Mouth Spray - Promote oral health and address dog and cat breathPupTeeth Granules - Relieve pain and discomfort associated with teethingView all PetAlive ProductsRegularly brush your pet's teeth. Again, maintenance is key to prevention. Ask your vet about the specific needs of your pet, as some breeds are more prone to disease.Inspect your pet's teeth. Also be sure to pay attention for any changes in your pet's eating habits (which may be linked to painful chewing) or foul-smelling breath, which is usually the first indicator of a problem. However, be aware that the gum line is slightly indented and can harbor the calculus-causing bacteria for months on end without being affected by your pet's eating.Take your pet for regular dental check-ups.Use natural preventative remedies to fight gum disease. Always consider the holistic method of caring for your pet, particularly since dental health is so interrelated with overall well-being. Cut Costs without Compromising Health(care)! Advice for a healthy pet without breaking the bank In times of economical hardship, we all try to find ways to reduce excess spending and cut corners when possible... sometimes even at the expense of their personal and family's health. Unfortunately, their furry friends' well-being may be compromised during this downturn, as well-potentially leading to more expensive complications down the road.At-home maintenance for minor injuries & grooming products:i-Clenz -Remove tear stains and promote overall visual healthAnalGlandz - Cleanse and disinfect the anal area to reduce swelling and painSkin and Coat Tonic - Restore shine to coats and promote healthy skinClenzor - Clean and disinfect wounds and skin irritationEye-Heal - Promote eye healthFurBall Dr. - Aid digestion, maintain regular bowels and prevent furballsPawPaw - Protect and encourage healing of pawsWound Dr. - Cleanse, heal and prevent infection in cuts, scrapes and irritations of all kindsPrevention products for overall health:Parasite Dr. - Natural remedy to promote digestive health and integrityParvo-K- Promote digestive harmony and fluid balanceProsPet Drops- Maintain prostate and urinary healthRespo-K Support respiratory & immune system functioningRing-Ex - Support normal levels of dermal fungus & promote skin healthTF-Defense - Support iron absorption & promote red blood cell integrityKC-Defense - Promote respiratory health, clear throat and a strong immune systemMuscle and Joint Support - Support healthy muscles, joints and bones naturallySlenderPet - Helps your pets stay within normal body weight & maintain healthy metabolism and efficient digestionView all PetAlive ProductsPet owners often consider cutting back on grooming and maintenance for their pets, especially when they appear to be in strong physical condition. According to veterinarian John Berg at Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, taking your pet in for check-ups and addressing slight problems right away can lead to reduced costs in long-term care, as many diseases are potentially preventable. As diseases advance, the cost of treatment also increases. Therefore, early detection and regular maintenance can go a long way to building a strong foundation for your pet's health.Research pet wellness or insurance plans to help reduce costs. Several nationwide pet store chains offer prepaid, affordable packages on preventative care services, as well as discounts on other veterinary services. Pet insurance is also a beneficial option since it is a set monthly cost that you can plan for.In addition, simply reducing exposure to potential hazards in your household and yard can prevent an expensive trip to the vet. Be sure to remove all choking or edible hazards, and beware of sharp or dangerous objects or shrubs to avoid injuries. Also consider keeping grooming costs in-house. Professional bathing and haircuts can be costly, so by doing these tasks at home, you can put aside that money towards other healthcare. By grooming your pet yourself, you may also be more aware of any disturbances in your pet's body, from abnormal lumps, bumps, or discharge-helping you put into practice early detection of problems.Another great way to reduce pet costs is to buy in bulk - anything from food to kitty litter to nutritional supplements. PetAlive also offers great Buy 2 Get 1 FREE specials, so stock up and save!Lastly, do a quick evaluation on overall spending perhaps you can cut back on little costs that add up, like excessive toys, wearable accessories, or gourmet treats. Instead, try rotating your pet's favorite toys to avoid boredom, and make your own treats at home. You may find that a little extra TLC can go a long way to a happy, healthy pet!--------------------------------------------------------------------------------"I can recommend your products to anyone who wants a healthy alternative for their animal. I had given up on the 'natural remedies' that I wasted my money on so many times, but I have never ever come away from your products feeling disappointed. My latest purchase of your Skin and Coat Tonic also lived up to your great reputation and I have recommended you to many of my fellow animal lovers who are just as happy. Thank you!" - Yael R."After using KC-Defense on my Afghan, I will never send her to the kennels without it again! At least I can be confident that she is protected as her system is very sensitive. Thanks for a great product that works so quickly and effectively!" -Dana Dog Food ...and the debate goes on. Grains are used as filler in commercial food and are usually not recommend for our sick and old ailing friends. Please use with caution.I'd also warn against dried fruit because of there high sugar content.STAY AWAY from grapes and raisins they are poisonous to dogs.Warning to Dog Owners - Raisin AlarmHere's a great website on Foods to Avoid Pet EducationHere's an article Cancer Friendly Food - Dogs with one of my favorite quotes in mind."An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".Also below is a piece taken from Cancer Dog Diet - One of Your Most Important Considerations for Successful Outcome"Diet is one thing that is easily controlled, and is often the only thing that makes thedifference between a successful treatment outcome and a failure"The first rule for feeding a dog with cancer is to STAY AWAY FROM GRAINS! Dogs didnot evolve as grain eaters. Most of our commercial dog foods are based upon rice, wheat orcorn. But if we look at dogs in nature, we find they never graze in the wheat field or ricepaddies. Dogs have evolved for the past 10 million years as primarily meat eaters. Theysimply do not produce the enzymes necessary to digest grains. While rice and corn may be agood filler for the dog food companies, they don't make a good filler for the dog. Read yourdog food label: make sure the first ingredient on the list is some type of meat. You willalmost always find some grains listed, but they should be down the list a ways, not right atthe top. Sorghum is a better filler than corn, which is better than rice or wheat. For a caninecancer patient, any commercial dry food should be supplemented with additional animalprotein sources. Feel free to add canned sardines (best), cottage cheese, eggs and just aboutany kind of meat such as hamburger or ground turkey. High fat content is good. Some vetsadvocate a raw diet, while some say it should be cooked. More important than cooked orraw is the amount of animal-based protein and fats. Keep in mind, dogs are primarilycarnivores. They do best on the diet they evolved to eat. Only Natural Pet Store - Natural products, holistic remedies, organic food, and more for your dog and cat! Save 5% on your first order! Fetching blurbs now... please stand by Holistic Approach Reiki-Relax says: I opt for the holistic choice nearly every time.It has to be better than being pumped full of drugs. Posted March 30, 2008 helen says: There seems to be a lot of controversy over the use of many of the heartworm medications. I think we need to research these products very carefully to ensure that we are doing the best thing for our dogs. I have heard of other cases where an adverse effect has resulted after giving heartworm medication. Posted February 25, 2008 karmasherbs says: I had a terrible experience. My Alaskan Malamute "Karma" had a seizure after one dose of Revolution. No more seizures after I discontinued it...Very concerned about the pesticides in these products. Posted February 22, 2008 Conventional Medicine goerbars says: Fortunately for those in Alberta we don't have to worry about heartworm (according to my vets). However, when I lived in Australia we did have to be concerned about heartworm, and we used Revolution as a preventative. One thing most people are not aware of regarding Revolution is that it is effective in a dog's system for 45 days. The 'rule' of applying once a month is presumptive that all dog owners are too stupid to calculate a 45 day application schedule. When we were in Oz we would use Revolution through the summer months when mosquitoes were about, then switch to Advantage for flea control for 2 or 3 months through the winter. We still use Advantage for flea control. I know that all the chemicals we pump into our pets are bad for them, but I for one cannot afford the 'natural' alternatives - and, frankly, I wouldn't trust that they are all that much better unless I was preparing them myself.Just my 2 cents._________________I have found the paradox that if I love until it hurts, then there is no hurt, but only more love.- Author: Mother Teresa Posted March 18, 2008 1 of 1 page Thanks for sounding off!
