If you haven’t been up to date, have no fear. You can find out all that you have missed on www.nbcolympics.com. The site constantly updates medal counts, upcoming events, and what channels to watch the competitions. This is all being done while in Beijing real time which is 12 hrs of our standard eastern time. You can also watch live video streaming of sports events on the webpage that are not being shown on television. There are just so many interactive features to look at. So far for the tennis team, James Blake advances to his next match while Venus and Serena were eliminated from theirs. But there is still hope for the sisters because they are still competing in the doubles. The US mens basketball team coined as the “Redeem Team” are definitely finding salvation. Yesterday (or actually today because right now in Beijing it’s Friday) the team beat Greece who defeated them in back in 2006 at the world championships. Also, congratulation the US Mens Gymnastics (who were all first-timers competing at the games) team who won bronze and the Women’s team won silver. What was amazing was the 1-2-3 sweep by the US women’s fencing team who gave the US its first three medals. By the way, did you know there was a brother and sister competing in fencing, however, they were eliminated as well. But their background story is truly inspiring and heart-warming. Here is the link to the brother’s pagehttp://www.nbcolympics.com/athletes/athlete=865/bio/index.html. Just one more thing! The total medal count for team USA is 34 compared to China’s 35 and accumulating so much gold, but we will have to wait and see what Track and Field Brings. It’s been 41 years since the 1967 Loving vs. Virginia case that opened the window of opportunity for interracial marriages. How is it so hard for someone to accept another because that person is different from their ethnic background? The ignorance and stubbornness of an individual can consume their mind from daring to be open-minded.  One might say “I have no problem with other races…I have friends who are Black, White, Asian, Hispanic, and other ethnicitiesâ€, but yet they still have preconceived thoughts of stereotypes instead of letting it go. How can someone say “I Love Youâ€, and can still hate someone based on RACE; Love and Hate can’t live together because it is a constant fight. One side has to win. Can one person truly watch the news and not think that all black men are criminals because there is a consecutive “coverage†of crimes committed by them; or categorize some Caucasians as white trash because they act a certain way or come from different economical backgrounds. Did anyone know that the phrase “white trash†is in the dictionary (look it up on www.dictionary.com) just like “niggerâ€, â€spickâ€, and “gook†can be found as well. This can show how deeply embedded racism is in American society because it is even in a reference book of higher learning; but then there is the First Amendment….Freedom of the Press. Here is a Cherokee saying: An elderly Cherokee Native American was teaching his grandchildren about life… He said to them, “A fight is going on inside me, it is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One wolf is evil — he is fear, anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, competition, superiority, and ego. The other is good—he is joy, peace, love, hope, sharing, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, friendship, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith. This same fight is going on inside you, and inside every other person, too.†They thought about it for a minute and then one child asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?†The old Cherokee simply replied: “The one you feedâ€.  HERE is the Link to the MSNBC Story http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24765917 Posted in News, life | Tagged Cultural Difference, Ignorance, Interracial, Interracial Marriage, love, marriage, Mulitcultural Marriage, Multicultural Marriages, racism | No Comments » Stimulus Checks from IRS and Is it Enough? Wednesday, May 28, 2008 by CandyLite News In case you haven’t heard, there has been a commotion with the anticipation of taxpayers awaiting their stimulus checks that should help out with the surge of prices in gas, groceries, etcetera. Upon recieving the checks, taxpayers have been receiving different amounts of money other than what they have been pronmised. Comments on the video ranged from blaming the parents for lack of control, applaud for the school’s reprimand on the attire, and chastising the girl’s attire. Is this an outcry for school’s nationwide to set a standard code for attire worn during school hours and at events? It may lead to a mandatory requirement for school uniforms.  What are your views? Should students be able to wear what they want?  Here is the link to the video: http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2008/05/12/edwards.skimpy.prom.dress.khou?iref=mpvideosview Posted in Community Happenings, Lite Video of the Day, News, The Odd Lite News | Tagged CNN, Dress, Event, high school, high school prom, Houston, life, Prom Dress, school, Skimpy Dress | 1 Comment » Funny Animal Video off YouTube Friday, May 9, 2008 by CandyLite News Jay Leno had a segment on funny animal videos found on You-tube, and it piqued my curiosity to see more.
