Ideas and Reviews Find Entries Home About Me Contact Medela PureLanâ„¢ Nipple Cream Posted by: Mayin All, Breastfeeding related, Reviews 13Apr One of the perils of a breastfeeding mum is having sore nipples. I should know, I had tonnes of this when I was breast feeding my first child. It was even worse when he was sick, or when he was having a fit for tantrums. It was really painful. At first I thought it was due to my baby’s position in nursing, but then I was told that sometimes, even if you get the position right, you can still feel sore especially if the baby (like mine) has an unusual temper. The pain was so bad, it made me think if I should continue. All this ended when i stumbled upon Medela Purelan Nipple Cream. It is just so wonderful, you only need a little and you apply it straight to the nipple. No need to rinse off. It is made of 100 % ultra-pure natural lanolin and therefore has less chance of any allergic reaction. What’s more, in my experience, I only need to apply it in the morning and by afternoon, it is all fine and ready for baby again! Hope that this product will help mothers out there who have problems like mine. It comes in 2 sizes - 7g and 37g. I bought the 37g one for a little less than RM50. Available in most baby stores which carries the Medela brand. Also available in Toys R Us, although you have to ask the staff about it if you do not find it. The KLCC branch stores this near the cashier because it disappears whenever left on the normal shelves!! No Comments Starbucks Breakfast Posted by: in All, Coffee Joints, Reviews 4Apr Today, I had the rare Friday morning to myself and I went over to KLCC for some breakfast at Starbucks. They were running the Breakfast Pairings which includes one sandwich and a daily brew for RM6.50. If you choose to have Latte, then you add RM3.00 for it. I went to their outlet on the Ground Floor and after ordering, I was told that they had ran out of Sunny Egg Sandwich. This was before 10am on a weekday! I was not very happy with this since I had expected them to have more of these promo items. I then went to their indoor outlet on the 3rd floor and thanfully, there were plenty. I ordered my Latte and paid RM3 more and then I settled down for my breakfast. Yummy! But my first bite was a little disappointing. I had expected a warmed up sandwich would be soft, but this was nothing like that. In fact, it was a little rubbery and there was no tantalizing smell to it. All throughout, I felt a little cheated, I really had expected more, especially breakfast. It should not be spoilt by rubbery food. The latte was as expected. Hot and aromatic. No disappointments there. I was looking up Starbucks’ website to find a nice graphic and found the above. Only thing is that it is not RM3.20, it’s now RM6.50 and if not mistaken, only valid till 11am instead of 2pm. It could have been another promo, but then, why was the website not updated? All in all, I would not say that I would purposely go back to Starbucks for this promotion of theirs. If at all, I would only go for my coffee. Let’s hope that that would not be a let down in the future! 3 Comments Medela Pump In Style® Advanced Posted by: Mayin All, Breastfeeding related, Reviews 27Mar If you are like me, a breastfeeding mum, then you will know that expressing our precious gold liquid is not easy, especially if you are working. With my older kid, I was at a lost as to what type of breastpumps to buy and what brand and where etc. In the end, I settled for a single electric Medela pump. After 2 years, it is still in good condition and it has been invaluable in helping me provide nutrition to my child. This time round, I figured, it is better to just get a double breast pump since I am likely to feed past my baby’s first year. Time was the main consideration. The double pump will shorten each of my session considerably. I went out to shop around for the best deal and bought the Medela Pump in Style. I think they no longer are producing it and have since been replaced with the Medela Pump in Style Advanced. This is an enhanced model, emphasising its 2-phase expression system which imitates the baby’s natural sucking rhythm. This was developed with research on observing how the baby suckles. The model I have do not have this feature but has a manual knob for me to adjust the frequency and the vacumn suction strength, much like how a baby would suckle too. What I like about this (and my current) model is that it comes with a nice black bag whick packs 4 bottles, 2 pumps and a contoured cooling element for the cooler. It is so convenient and discreet. And I love the fact that the cooling element lasts 12 hours, so I do not have to worry about where to store my milk to preserve its freshness. 2 things that I do not quite like are the pump’s valves and membranes. The valves are quite difficult to clean and the membranes are easily torn because it is so thin. One way around that is to really have the soap run through the valves and have spare membranes in hand in case you tear them when washing. I bought my model for a little over RM1,000 and I think the current model is selling for about RM1,600, but please check the stores near to you for the latest price. Certain shops sometimes carry offers and some have discounts if you are a member. But I personally think the investment is worth it, considering the kind of money you pay for a small can of infant milk powder is something like RM50 and they go through 3-4 cans every month! So, if you are thinking of breastfeeding but not sure what to buy, go check this out. Or, you can be like me, already tried single pump and want something faster, go see this too. Available in most kiddies stores. 2 Comments Breaking the Good Mom Myth Posted by: Mayin All, Parenting books, Reviews 22Mar Before I became a mum, I had this expectation of myself to being the perfect mother - loving, caring, someone who is forever patient with the kids, someone who has all the answers, who can cook, juggle the schedules, etc. When my older boy came along, things went into a chaotic phase. All my ideals were thrown out of the window and I was constantly near tears and always wondered how I became such a dreadful mum … and wife. And I was really stressed too. Then one day, in one of my rare solo outings, I stumbled on this book - Breaking the Good Mom Myth. It talks about the following myths which many mothers like me think are what is expected of us. Myth 1 - Self-care is selfish. Apparently it is not … You need this to be happy and healthy and the kids need you to be so. Myth 2 - My children are a reflection of me. Again, it is not so and it has to do with you wanting to be a slow parenting person or a quick fix parenting person. It made me think about how I handle my kids in a whole new way. Myth 3 - My marriage can wait. Definitely a big no-no. The kids need to see that mummy and daddy are in a loving relationship. Our marriage serves as a guide book and a pillar of strength for them to grow up healthy and happy. Myth 4 - Good mothers are all caring and all protecting. Yup, I guess we have all been there where we over do things for our kids to the point of pampering them. Myth 5 - Good mothers are in control. This will help breed a power hungry child who will then go into a power struggle with you. One of the solution is to have a family meeting to set expectations and lay down rules. Myth 6 - Good mothers manage sibling conflict. Apparently children fight to get our attention. So maybe the next time they fght, we let them be, unless there is a tendency the fight will escalate to someone being in the hospital! Myth 7 - Only the best education for my child. Dangers of having the “best’ education and us being too pushy and then causing stress upon our kids! Myth 8 - Good mothers make life fun and entertaining. Aiyai yai … this is the best one. We have to learn to ensure that our kids are able to self-entertain! This was like music to my ears, really. I am not so bad after all. Now, after seeing this, isn’t this a great book? Finally, I realised I am not a horrible mum! If you are interested, check out this book by Alyson Schafer. Available in paperback at MPH for RM47.80. It’s ISBN number is 978-0-470-83743-6. Happy reading! 3 Comments Mothercare Little Softie Liquid Talc Posted by: Mayin All, Kids' toiletries, Reviews 19Mar I am sure some of you would have read about the dangers of using talc based powder. Now, I am not certain if I should believe this entirely as I was raised with talcum powder and my mother was raised with talcum powder and we are still relatively healthy. However, for my kids, especially my daughter, I have decided to limit the use of any sort of powder. And so, imagine my delight when I stumbled upon this liquid talc. When applied, the liquid talc gently soothes the baby’s delicate skin as it contains added extracts of camomile for that soft and smooth feel. It smoothes on as a liquid and dries to a soft silky powder. It is also dermatologically tested and hypoallergenic, making it safe from birth.  I usually use it on my daughter after bath and every time I change her nappy. It also has that oh-so-cozy smell attached to it. You can find this in all Mothercare stores, currently going for RM27.00. I think it is a little pricey as I replenish it quite frequently, but I think better this than worrying about my baby’s health, right? 2 Comments Maiden post Posted by: in All, Uncategorized 19Mar Hello everybody!
