Not much on the cards for today. I’m coping – just – with workload demands from the day job. The contractor is doing my wick in; he forgets we don’t have an end in sight whereas his contract is terminable at any time, and definitely by April. Bottom boots are to be dispensed.
I was in talks with my editor at my main client, and it looks like there is some new and very interesting work on the cards. We discussed the opportunity, talked about the money involved, and he is sending me some books to back up what I know or don’t know about the subject in question. It’s a big gig, but should prove fruitful financially and might help move me into another level within my freelance career.
Last month I was given a contribution award from my department managers at the day job. Yes … me. I was allowed to select whatever gift I wanted to a specific cash value, and after some deliberation I settled on meal vouchers at a popular restaurant chain.
And so tonight I took Gail and Laura out for the evening, and we reaped the reward for all my hard work – a trip to Pizza Express down on Leith’s Shore.
Two portions of dough balls with garlic butter, three delicious pizzas (you should try the Siciliana; prosciutto ham, olives, artichokes, anchovies, and garlic – wow!), three scrumptious desserts, one Coke, one Nastro Azzuro beer, and one glass of Pinot Grigio, and all for the princely sum of 45 pence, the rest being picked up courtesy of The Company.
It’s a strange, strange world.
