I had the worst day in a long time. The air conditioning in the office was not working. Well… it was but it had to be turned off because they had to fix the one in the office next to mine. Not happy about that.
It was so hot. I have 3 very large windows and the sun beats on them all day. Towards the afternoon, the temperatures were up around 40 degrees celcius. I sent the staff home as it was a health hazard and a health and safety issue. Staff didn’t want to leave (bless them) and were under strict instructions to drink water to stay hydrated. I would have preferred that they went home though.
After complaining about it 4 times to centre management, this is what they installed as a temporary measure:
It reminds me of the robot in Lost in Space, the one that says “Danger, Will Robinson, danger” as it waves it’s tube arms about while having an apoplexy. I’ll take photos tomorrow (of the air conditioner, not the robot). Mine is nowhere near as pretty as the one above and much more rudimentary than B9. I did not have the energy to take photos today as all the energy had been sapped out of me by the heat.
Can you see the resemblance? You really need to see both the robot and the air conditioner in action to really, really understand what I mean.
Sadly, Bob Mays, who played the part of the robot in the Lost in space series, died yesterday (18 January 2009).
The temporary air conditioner helped a little but it was still hot and difficult to concentrate.
