If you have been reading my blog for any length of time, chances are you know I like a touch of hardware. My beloved Nikki, with its signature oversized hardware; my favorite scarf, with its stud detail; the gladiator sandals I wore the whole summer and got so many compliments on at BlogHer09; the Jimmy Choo for H&M cuff I braved the madness to get (plus the shoes, I’m not completely crazy); they all have a touch of hardware, an edgy vibe – but for each item, its classic shape keeps it super-wearable and keeps you from looking like an 80’s rock band groupie
Still, a rocker vibe, a touch of hardware or a few studs can make your outfit more modern, a bit edgier, and change an outfit from blah to wow. (Or from drab to fab, if you prefer.)
Which is why it’s no surprise that when I found out about a contest on the Swedish fashion blog Caroline’s Mode (and I have a local blog, Styleseeking Zurich, to thank for that find!) where you can win your favorite outfit of the 14 included in the editorial, I of course picked this one:
Granted, I would probably wear the tee down and cinch it at the waist with the belt (also above), but the rest of the outfit? Head over peep-toe-heels LOVE.
I’m not afraid to admit that since the move I haven’t been able to get much shopping done for myself. New apartment to furnish, new school clothes to get, and a road trip or two to get a feel for being back in Europe are sucking what would otherwise be my shopping reserves dry. As carrie said, Water water everywhere, and not a drop to drink. Indeed.
So winning an outfit which includes some of my favorite items, items that keep staring at me from my to-buy list, would be a wonderful, wonderful treat. Doesn’t a busy, mostly selfless expat mom deserve a treat?
But seriously: what’s not to love? The treggings, the one leggings hybrid I can truly get behind, in a classic black, so they can be dressed up or down. The peep-toe booties, that I kid you not, I have had on my list for two winters now and still haven’t managed to get. I love peep-toes, you know that. And even if it means freezing my toes in snowy Zurich, I will absolutely wear peep-toe booties. And the jacket? What to say of the classic shape, with the studded collar, and the zipped closure, and zipped pockets? I need that in my closet. This is the perfect example of how an edgier piece can bring a bit of oomph to a simple outfit. Seriously, there is already a space saved for that jacket in my closet and all my clothes are just dying to meet her. My head is already bubbling with the possibilities, everything I could wear it with.
What do you think? Don’t I deserve to win? I hardly ever ask for a cheer in my direction, but maybe this time it’s worth it, if it’ll sway the Editor’s decision a bit
