“If ever a time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin.”
Samuel Adams
I gave it a try. I watched about the first 10 minutes of the President’s speech, and that was all I could take. It’s still going on even as I type this.
In what was described by some today as Obama’s attempt to be “Reaganesque” he missed that right off the bat by forgetting the protocol. He started his speech then the Speaker had to interrupt to introduce him. Wasn’t he “present” on any of the previous President’s speeches?
He started off on the wrong path with me by lecturing the country on irresponsible spending of the past. This from a many who just signed the largest spending bill in the history of mankind, tripling the national debt.
And a bill that no one who voted “yes” had time to read before doing so.
That’s the very definition of irresponsible spending. Even if, in our wildest dreams, this bill was the right thing to do (it’s not) and if it had a even a remote chance of helping our economy (it doesn’t), not allowing Congress time to read it was just plain reckless.
I kept watching though. Until the President turned and metaphorically flicked Biden on the backside with a towel saying “nobody messes with Joe.”
Over at Bearing Drift, J.R. has an Open Thread going: Open Thread: SOTU Show, Obama’s pilot episode. He’s got Eric Cantor’s statement and a drinking game proposed by Newt Gingrich. Check it out.
