For the past week, James has been launching himself out of his crib and wandering around upstairs when he wakes up in the morning or from naptime. Ella joined him a few days after he started and Cameron tries, but she is a little shy about committing to the drop since she has fallen more than once.
They have been able to climb out of their cribs for at least 6 months now, but it wasn't really a habit until we got closer to winter. And once it turned cold outside, I put them back into sleepy sacks (wearable blankets) so the climbing stopped. But about a week ago, I realized they were way too big for the sleepy sacks and didn't have enough room to properly stretch out. So we ditched them.
And they started climbing again.
Our thought was, why not embrace it? And so we turned their cribs into big kid beds. Not quite toddler beds, yet...we just lowered the railings and raised the mattresses a bit, so that they can climb in and out 'by self'. The girls cribs do convert to toddler beds, but without the railing, I am pretty sure they would all just roll themselves right out of bed since we often find them pressed right up against the side of their beds.
They skipped naptime today (too excited about the beds), but they went right to sleep tonight. We'll see how long that lasts, but if they do well, I think it will be time to fully transition to big beds.
