Today’s Toronto Star, in the GTA section, ran an article titled: “Will foes face off again in Oakville mayor’s race?”. and brought up the issue on whether or not incumbant Mayor Rob Burton will face his nemesis, former Oakville mayor, Ann Mulvale. Kind of like Sherlock Holmes and Professor Moriarty.
I like how they stated in the article: “her unusual defeat”. Nothing unusual about people deciding it was time the taxpayer and local citizens made the decisions on how Oakville and Halton was going to be developed and to make those benefiting pay the freight.
Someone got the taxpayer to pay for the pipeline to Milton which allowed the developers to open up their land and make a lot of money on this expenditure and subsequent tax burden.
I have two questions for this potential mayoral candidate?
1: Do you support the idea that development costs should reflect the true cost of developing land into an urban landscape and that developers should not proceed until infrastructure costs are met by them?
2: What would you do if you were told, as the mayor, that a local developer you were trying to get a donation from, was guilty of illegal wiring that put children’s lives at risk?
