I sat on that narrow path, oblivious of the frequent feet that stroll by. Not even the irritating sound of the metallic gate leading to the narrow path could interfere with my blissful meditation. No doubt, I was lost. She sat leaning on me with a lock of her neatly packed hair, swinging from one side of her face. I clasped her soft fingers gently in my warm but moist palm and pushed lightly on the lock of hair shrouding her face with the other hand. Her scent filled the air around us and I could only shut my eyes, surrendering to the eternal bliss our sacred union provides. The silence was sublime. The energy was amazing. Ever since she scribbled those words, 'Yes, I do' life for me – for us, has taken a whole new meaning. She broke the silence. “There’s something I must tell youâ€, she began. This time, she was looking at me directly in the eyes. I sat glued like one under some sort of hypnosis. Her face lit up as rays of yellow light filter in from the bulb above my head. I couldn’t take my eyes off that innocent eyes peering from behind those pair of glasses. I held her hands in mine. Her voice streamed in like the songs of birds at dawn, creating a piece of rhythm that resonates in my heart forever.“I know you would feel so disappointed at what I am going to tell youâ€, she continued. “I hate myself for it as well but I love you baby and you deserve to know the truthâ€, she paused.I sat there, fondling with her fingers, paying utmost attention to the one woman that has touched my life in amazing ways. I was scared; only that I don’t know what I was scared about. And then, she dropped the bombshell.“I’m not a virginâ€.Those words came out slowly like a movie scene reeling out in a slow-mo. I guess she must have paused to see my reaction because when she continued, her voice was laced with fear.“I was young and innocent. I couldn’t fight him. I am sorry my love for I don’t deserve that gown that breathes of purity. I would understand if you decide to end this unionâ€. Steaming tears trickled down her beautiful face.I stood up. She recoiled and bowed her head in shame as the tears ceaselessly flow. I pushed my stool to one side, trying to hold back the flood of emotions that was beginning to build, while my other hand burrowed into my pocket. “I have to do thisâ€, I whispered to myself. “There is no better time than nowâ€. I moved closer until my knees kissed the earth beside her. “It is over!†I whispered into her ears.Broken, she lifted her tear-filled eyes to meet my outstretched arm which held out a small box. I pulled the lid with my other hand, watching as her face brightens.“The storm is over my love. Please, marry me?†I pleaded. There staring at her is a diamond engagement ring. Our lips met, never to part again.
