You don’t need to pick the same topic as I do.
Part of being a friend is being there for that person through their time of need. To be a shoulder to lean on and to listen during their “complaints”.
But what happens if that is all that this person is focusing on. I have a friend who is going through a tough time. I’m there to listen. The problem is that she has been finding herself in this similar situation ever since I’ve known her. She gets frustrated, angry, even a little depressed. She blames everyone else, but never asks herself why she is always in the same situation.
The frustrating part is that this is ALL she talks about. I find myself listening for hours about the same topic over and over…..and over. It’s the same complaints, it’s the same problems. When I politely ask why she doesn’t do something to get out of this situation, she doesn’t want to do anything about it.
I want to be there for her but it’s starting to become a little draining. Then I feel guilty for feeling this way, like I’m not a good friend. It just that it’s been going on for years now. The worst thing is that it’s a problem that can be solved. She just has to want it to change.
I don’t want to go into details out of respect for her, even though she doesn’t know my blog’s address. Which I’m grateful because I really needed to write about this.
I have tried to help give her some advice, but she just gets angry when I try to tell her what I think. Do I just continue to listen, without offering my opinion?
It’s frustrating because she’s a great person and all I really want for her is to be Happy.
